An Intrinsic Love for The Craft

Blowing Glass

I have been a glass artist for almost twenty years, beginning as a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology, building my own studio, several times, and showing my work at various trade shows and competitions.

I love every minute spent blowing glass. It is like working with a blood hungry shark at your elbow. Exhilarating and exhausting, but the magic of molten glass never, never pales. The color, the molteness, the gathers, the air expanding a bubble, and the fluid shapes that move through my hands bring me back to every session in the hot shop with new energy.

Designing Glass

It takes vision

Sometime you make a mistake, and it teaches you something.  I had blown a lopsided, collapsing ornament, and the next day, my son saw an apple.

I ran with what he saw, made thirty or forty of that ‘mistake’ and my Apple Ornaments became a part of the line up.  Designing glass might begin on paper, but the material has a major voice in the process.  I’ve learned to listen to what the molten material has to say.
